From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team access places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Explorers and Planners tables.
